We want funds to raise the profile of carers and caring in Stockport – making our town a carer friendly community.
About this cause
Signpost Stockport for Carers offers practical and emotional support for anyone caring for a friend or relative living with illness, disability or addiction and that couldn't manage without their support. We work specifically with carers of people living with dementia, and with young carers (from age 6). Our staff and volunteers are champions for Carers and work to raise the profile of the contribution they make, and challenges they face. We encourage people to identify as carers and access support by working in the community and with employers. Carers access wellbeing and information days, learning and social opportunities & specialist advice. We enable carers to receive mutual and professional support where necessary - physically or virtually through the use of social media.
How this cause brings people in the community together
1 in 6 of Stockport's population are carers - but few talk about it due to a perceived lack of understanding of daily commitments & the physical & emotional toll that their caring role takes. As well as being carers, they are employees, customers & coffee drinkers (!) but the silence around caring often leads to social isolation. Our project brings caring into the open & encourages understanding.
