About this cause

WSDCS supports deaf children and their families throughout the 12 local authorities of West Scotland . We support families from the point of diagnosis which can be as young as 6 weeks to age 20+. We support in a variety of ways, emotional, social and providing advice on all aspects of childhood deafness. Educational support and information about benefits families might be entitled to. The society provides a weekly fun activity club for children aged 5 to 11 and a twice monthly youth club for our teenagers . We provide outreach support, Summer trips during the school summer holidays, an annual inter school football tournament, family fun days, parties, and a family fun sports day. This is just a flavour of the kind of support the society provides.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our children/young people meet regularly with other deaf children, to socialise & have fun together. This helps alleviate the loneliness, isolation & frustration experienced. Parents gain support & information from staff, volunteers & other deaf families. They find a source of strength in each other & we help ensure our children & young people have every opportunity to thrive in a hearing world.
