Stoke on Trent Churches Community Night Shelter
Social Inclusion
Help us provide beds, meals and a warm, safe environment for those sleeping rough.
About this cause
The shelter is an invaluable project that provides warmth, security and meals to homeless people. Although it's a religious organisation the beneficiaries are anyone who needs the shelter support and are not affiliated to a church in any way. Monies raised goes towards providing sleeping bags, occasional overnight shelter, clothes, warm meals and packed lunches. I am one of many volunteers who has attended the shelter over the winter to cook a warm breakfast for the users and to ensure they have access to services to help them. Our objective is to extend the shelter to provide more regular overnight stays and to help these vulnerable adults to develop and change their ways. In a short period of 3 months 82 guests used the night shelter and 36 of them went on to get rehab and permanent digs
How this cause brings people in the community together
It will help to keep the number of rough sleepers locally down and gives a charitable feeling to the community helping those less fortunate. The collection made for the shelter last Christmas was overwhelming and locals were extremely supportive.
