We want to provide an inclusive weekend respite break for the deaf children and their families.
About this cause
We support deaf and hearing impaired children and their families across Northamptonshire. We provide informal monthly group sessions where the children and their siblings can meet and spend time with their peers without communication barriers or the felling of being different. Parents and carers can relax and offer each other mutual support and advice. We also organise trips and activities during school holidays that would not always be easily accessible eg subtitled cinema & signed theatre. We aim to provide a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment for all our members in the hope that they grow in self-confidence, self-esteem and independence. Most deaf children are the only deaf person in their family and also in their school which can prove very isolating and frustrating.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will ensure the hearing impaired children get to spend some quality time with their peers, enjoying activities without communication barriers. It is important for them to interact with their deaf peers so they don't feel different or isolated.
