Liberty Drives
Social Inclusion
We need to replace the motor and batteries on one of our buggies.
About this cause
LIBERTY DRIVES, now in it's 20th year, provide a transportation service FREE of charge for the elderly and individuals with disabilities (along with caregivers, friends and family) to visit inside Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Each Liberty Drives electric buggy has seating for five passengers, plus one in a wheelchair. Staffed by knowledgeable volunteer drivers from the local community, each tour of the 760 acres of parks land lasts approximately 45 minutes. Operating from 1 May to 31 October, Monday to Friday, 10:00 am until 5.00 pm we also chauffeur the disabled at the BBC Proms in the park and British Summer Time concerts. Most would not attend if the Liberty Drives service wasn't available as it is too far to travel, especially after dark. It's much valued & highly appreciated.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our 35 volunteers derive immense satisfaction from helping local residents navigate the Royal Parks. Once they have had their daily exercise we return them to their cars or transport them from one gate to another.
