About this cause

The organisation is a registered charity (no. 1153791) providing emergency food parcels to individuals and families in short term financial crisis across the Canterbury City Council district (Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and surrounding villages) and working with CAB to signpost people to support agencies. Funding is sought to help fund the work with CAB and to support the outreach activities. An outreach project is run in Whitstable at the Umbrella Centre once a week providing freshly made soup, cakes, teas and coffees to anyone. We receive donations of vegetables from a local greengrocer and bread from the local co-op store. Everything is provided free but donations can be made. We work in partnership with the Saint Vincent De Paul Society and the Whitstable Umbrella Centre.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Having trained advisers at the cafes will help local residents who are in a financial crisis with free information and assistance. This will help people resolve their problems with benefits issues, issues relating to housing and many other problems. Providing advice, assistance and food support to those in need at the right time can help prevent further difficulties for individuals and families.
