Gateshead Older People's Assembly
Social Inclusion
We will enable older people to take part in activities to help prevent falls and malnutrition, and reduce loneliness and social isolation.
About this cause
Our organisation is user-led, by older people, for older people. Our objectives include: Increase knowledge of issues affecting older people. Reduce loneliness and isolation. Improve health and well-being. Reduce the number of falls. We run a pay-what-you-can volunteer-led community café, which serves healthy home cooked meals and is a hub for social activity and a way of finding out what is going on at the Assembly. We have volunteer-led social groups, a dementia friendly community garden, a weekly Tea Dance, basic IT classes, healthy eating and cooking, and a book club. We also have staying steady programme, and exercise classes, including Tai Chi. to help reduce falls in older people. Our Discover Health 50+ programme allows people to try out different activities in a safe environment.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will help the whole community as our Cosy Crow café is open to everyone. We also provide volunteering opportunities and training for people of all ages.
