About this cause

We are a key catalyst organisation for Community Development in Fivemiletown and its wide rural hinterland. Since we started in 1997, we have, through fund raising and assessing grants, established the Buttermarket, a 10 unit building, right in the centre of Fivemiletown. We reserve two units and an office for our community work and the rent from the others gives us the money to assist our community. This "Neutral Venue" is available free to all community groups. Our outreach work has given the area a football arena, an outdoor all-weather bowling green, and we have assisted in the creation of rugby and golf clubs. Internally we have had a "Health and Fitness " and "After school" clubs for children of working mothers We now focus on our own "Half Door Club" for the elderly.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Fivemiletown is a remote rural area. It is, for example, close to the "Border", and over 20 miles in any direction to any major town, the largest being Dungannon, Enniskillen, Armagh and even Monaghan. There are many elderly folk in our midst, some living on their own, who will be given joy to their lives, in the company of other locals, many of whom they have never met, in participating.
