About this cause

Maggie's provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends, offering a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built in the grounds of the Christie Hospital, the Maggie's Centre in Manchester is a warm and welcoming place, with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need to find their way through cancer. Maggie's Manchester is a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people or simply to sit quietly with a cup of tea. 13,000 people visited us in our first year, and this figure will increase as the number of people living with cancer rises steadily.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Today, there are 2 million people living with or after cancer - a figure that is steadily rising, with over 300,000 new diagnoses each year. Maggie's is here for everyone affected by cancer, offering a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. In Manchester we have 2 Cancer Support Specialists supporting local people who visit our Centre.
