Rodley Nature Reserve Trust
Environment
We want to extend the accessible path around the reserve, improving the surface for all walkers, wheelchair and pushchair users.
About this cause
Rodley Nature Reserve Trust exists for the education of the public in the understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of wildlife. The reserve has helped to reclaim and provide public access to a former water treatment plant on the flood plain of the River Aire owned predominantly by Yorkshire Water. Fundraising and many hours of volunteer labour have resulted in the current range of services: comprehensive access, a well-equipped visitor centre, many hides and walkways from which to observe the natural environment, interpretation and signage to assist visitors. The Trust relies on a very healthy Friends Group and 80 strong volunteer base to deliver the Trust’s environmental management plan, staff the centre, develop the academic and educational offer and support promotional activity.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Extending the accessible path will enhance the reputation of the reserve as a place where everyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can get closer to, and understand more about, the natural world on their doorsteps. Getting around the reserve will be easier for everyone and that will encourage more families to take part in simply enjoying outdoor physical activity.
