About this cause

John Bellany Day Centre provides an Intense Day Care Service for older people living in Port Seton, Cockenzie and Longniddry areas, allowing them to remain actively involved in their own communities. We provide quality care and support to older people living with Dementia, long term medical conditions and social isolation, together with essential support and respite for their carers and families. The Co-op Community Funding will allow us to improve the physical environment of the Dining Room and create a more supportive and relaxing area for people with complex cognitive problems, physical conditions and Dementia related illnesses. The improvements will include new dining furniture, Dementia Friendly signage and pictures, an orientation board, special coloured crockery and mats.

How this cause brings people in the community together

With the closure of local services the need for Day Centres is greater than ever. There are fewer and fewer resources to provide high quality care and support, so developing and upgrading our existing service is paramount to the local community. With a younger generation requiring our service it is essential that our environment is suitable for a wider age range of users.
