Blind and Sight Impaired Society (BASIS)
Social Inclusion
We want to buy a braille embosser to enable us to translate everyday items that help the blind and visually impaired in our community.
About this cause
BASIS supports adults with sight loss in South Essex, helping to reduce isolation, increase confidence and promote independent living. The areas of South Essex we cover are: Basildon, Billericay, Wickford, Thurrock, Benfleet and Canvey Island. We offer multiple services: Home visiting scheme Resource Centre Social and activity based groups Advice on equipment Computer training Braille training Quarterly newsletter
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will help us to make blind and sight impaired people feel less isolated in our community. We will do this by translating everyday information such as menus, timetables and leaflets in to braille to enable those affected by sight loss to go out independently to restaurants and use public transport. A new braille embosser will also enable us to offer braille lessons at our centre.
