About this cause

Menheniot Scouts is a growing and very active group, drawing young people from Menheniot and surrounding towns and villages. The group has a strong track record in participating in camps and outdoor activities. In a typical year we run our own water sports based camp, train for and participate in the annual Coast to Coast walk, send a group to at least two county/district camps, we go wild camping on Dartmoor, canoeing, climbing and lots of other less formal fun stuff. We have an active programme based in Menheniot Village Hall too, including training to shoot air rifles, pioneering (tying knots and using poles), making things with paracord , cooking (indoors and outside, and using lightweight stoves and open fires). The group has a strong and active team of Leaders.

How this cause brings people in the community together

All of our Scouts learn teamwork and self-reliance through the structured and challenging activities that they participate in. We strive to offer a range of activities that young people might otherwise not get the chance to do, eg climbing, canoeing, sleeping out in woods in a hammock - and often low-cost so that kids from low-income families can participate.
