About this cause

We are a volunteer run Community Centre based in a 19th century listed building which is leased from Telford and Wrekin Council. The ground floor of our centre is available for hire at any time. The first floor is sub-let to the Scouts Association. Our regular users include two play groups, yoga, pilates, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, home learning support, a film club and a Gardening Group. The Centre is also used for private parties, meetings, cultural events, a pantomime and other functions. Our objectives are to provide a quality venue at reasonable rates for as many community activities as possible. Our only income is from hire charges and a grant from our Parish Council. After meeting day to day running costs, any surplus is used to improve the building and surrounds.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The land is in a very prominent position on the main road through Coalbrookdale. It is opposite the historic Coke Hearth and adjacent to the bus stop. Every pedestrian and driver, whether resident or visiting the Ironbridge Gorge, passes the site. If it were improved it would enhance the whole area and we hope it would kick start other environmental improvements by adjacent landowners.
