About this cause

We believe that no pet should suffer due to personal circumstances. 1 in 2 households in the UK owns a pet – the furry and four-legged provide constant companionship and joy, along with physical and mental health benefits. We want to support those most in need in your community, ensuring that they can enjoy all the benefits of pet ownership by providing veterinary care and advice 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our work doesn’t start and stop at our hospitals though – our work in the community to educate about responsible pet ownership improves the quality of life for everyone living in it.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Pets are a support system for so many people in your community – whether it’s a single parent, someone with a disability or an elderly person living on their own. Your local PDSA Bow Pet Hospital provides free and reduced cost care to over 180 pets every single day, saving pets’ lives and educating owners on all aspects of pet care. Ilford is also home to PDSA’s only Pet Cemetery, which dates from the 1920s. There are over 3,000 animals laid to rest here, including some of the bravest the country has ever known who have served in war or displayed extraordinary acts of devotion. PDSA honours, highlights and protects the vital role of pets in this community.
