About this cause

We are a local Scout Group in the rural community of Aberdeenshire. Our Group consists of a Beaver Colony of 6 to 8 year olds; a Cub Pack of 8 to 11 year olds; a Scout Group of 11 to 14 year olds; an Explorer Unit of 14 to 18 year olds and we are trying to get a Network unit running for 18 to 25 year olds. Scouting is fully inclusive. We try and get young people out of doors as often as possible, we take them camping, hiking, canoeing, sailing etc. We teach social responsibility by helping clean the beach, help any group who asks for assistance including the "Blue Light Festival"; Vintage Car Rally; and with the Life Boat. We teach team work and self respect. Our young people follow a progressive badge scheme and recently have included the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in our offering.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The mini bus will allow us to increase the number of young people who take part in our activities and gain Scout and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. We also want to make the mini bus available for other community groups to use. We already have had discussions on this and have interest from "Storm" basketball teams; Fraserburgh Running Club; and local Guide and Brownie packs. I expect this to increase.
