Carers Lewisham
Social Inclusion
We want to develop a respite service to offer Lewisham carers a break from caring, reducing social isolation and the risk of crisis.
About this cause
Carers Lewisham supports anyone aged 5 upwards who provides unpaid care to family or friends who could not manage without their help due to mental or physical illness or disability. We offer a range of services including advice, information, emotional support, breaks, relaxation days and well-being sessions; coping strategies, specialist support for parent carers, male carers, young carers, carers of people with dementia, carers of people with mental health problems, older carers and carers who are caring for someone who is nearing the end of their life. In Lewisham there are over 24,500 carers and we currently support over 6000 carers, 500 of whom are children. 60% of us will be a carer at some point in our lives.
How this cause brings people in the community together
In Lewisham there are over 24,500 carers that could potentially benefit from the project. Carers will feel less isolated, more resilient, better equipped to cope and care with a direct positive effect also on the cared for level of happiness and well-being. Ultimately, it will be beneficial for anyone around them: families, colleagues, neighbours, health professionals and the whole community.
