About this cause
Our aim is to meet the individual needs of elderly, infirm, disabled persons or anyone who has a genuine need within Alford and surrounding area to attend medical and health related appointments by use of volunteer drivers where public or family transport is not available or inappropriate. Passengers are not charged for the service but may contribute to the Charity if they so wish.
How this cause brings people in the community together
ACTS is widely appreciated, evidenced by the fact that its use by the public has increased more than ten fold since its inception in 2000. In many instances it is the only practical way patients can meet their commitment to attend medical appointments. There are no staff related costs involved since all work contributions are on a voluntary basis. Drivers are given a mileage allowance.
