About this cause

St Peter & St James Hospice provides free end of life care to local people with a terminal illness. Our aim is for people to live well towards the end of their life, to be cared for with compassion and to receive care, and die, in the place of their choice. In the last year we cared for 673 patients. In addition to our hospice, we have a team of nurses working in the community and a Wellbeing Centre offering therapies, activities and counselling. Our care extends to supporting family and friends too. We are effective because we are uniquely placed locally to offer end of life care. “From the moment you became involved in our situation we felt safe and comforted. The patience and empathy that you showed to my father and mother made an unbearable set of circumstances somehow bearable”.

How this cause brings people in the community together

One in five local families have used our hospice and many people want to stay connected to us. Nature is very healing and this trail will promote wellbeing through walking, reflecting and remembering for people who are bereaved. It will also be open to local schools and community groups, providing a gentle introduction to our hospice and removing some of the ‘fear’ people have about hospices.
