Wanstead Church School PTA

Education & Skills

We would like to construct a sensory garden for our pupils, to be a calm space for those that need time out, as well as a green classroom.

About this cause

The PTA raises money to fund projects that have had a major impact on school life, such as the refurbishment of the school library and provision of outdoor play equipment, as well as activities such as Science Week, trips to the theatre, visits from animal handlers that have greatly enriched children's learning. Plus the fun stuff too, like school discos. The PTA plays a part in other aspects of school life too; serving refreshments at school plays, or paying for flowers so children can help decorate the church for harvest festival. All parents are members, and we depend greatly on our volunteers. As a small school, we will be heavily impacted by cuts to educational funding. Future plans include further refurbishment of the playgrounds, including the addition of a sensory garden.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The school is a key part of Wanstead's local community, and we open to the public on several occasions during the year (fetes, charity breakfasts, afternoon teas for the elderly, to name a few). Our sensory garden will offer volunteering opportunities for keen gardeners, including parents/pupils, and will honour the memory of Derek Jarvis, Wanstead's much loved lollipop man, who loved gardening.
