Sutton Mencap
Young People
We want to provide outings and fun activities for children and young people with a learning disability.
About this cause
Sutton Mencap works to improve the lives of children and adults with a learning disability and their carers in the London Borough of Sutton. We do this by providing a wide range of services to approximately 80 children and young people and 200 adults. These services include: • After school, Saturday and holiday schemes for children and young people, including those with complex health needs and/ or challenging behaviour. • A programme of daytime and evening learning and leisure groups aimed at adults who find it difficult to take part in mainstream activities. • Community Link service, which supports adults to participate in community activities. • Circles of Support service, which helps develop support networks for adults with a learning disability.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project helps break down barriers by emphasising the need to see disabled children in the same light as others, with the same needs to have fun, try out new experiences and spend time with friends. It will help people recognise that disabled children and young people are part of the local community and can take part in activities alongside everyone else.
