Our project will provide sport, art and drama activity days during the school holidays for children and young people in our local community.
About this cause
We are a charity, established to support our SpArC leisure centre in Bishop's Castle, which is threatened with closure. SpArC is the living heart of the town, providing vital sports, swimming, fitness, arts and social facilities for the whole community & surrounding area for people of all ages including children and young people. Maintaining the swimming pool provision provides a vital swimming facility for our rural community and primary schools. Our objectives are to promote participation in Arts and Leisure activities, maintain the sports, arts and theatre provision for the benefit of the local community, promote accessible theatre & film opportunities for people with dementia & their carers and improve the overall health and well being of our community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will provide school holiday sessions for up to 400 young people aged 8 to 16 in this very rural area. This will reduce travel to other facilities which are over 20 miles away, provide additional child care support for parents and families during school holidays and introduce young people to a variety of sports, activities thus encouraging increased physical activity.
