We want to buy equipment to support the elderly's independence and self esteem.
About this cause
Pos+Ability's objectives are to promote good health of people (mostly elderly) who have survived a stroke, are living with Parkinson's, Multiple sclerosis, Muscular dystrophy, and other long term neurological conditions and at the same time to support their carers. We provide one hour chair based exercises of structured and focused group activity and one hour of individual personal development programmes for two hours every week for a minimum commitment of 6 months after which clients can refer to stay on. This helps with their memory and cognitive skills, balance and resistance work, co-ordination, communication and conversation, individual goal setting using a whole range of specialist equipment including wheel chair accessible exercise bikes, parallel bars, weights and hand equipment.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We will support the cared for and give the carers a break for two hours per week every week. We should reduce the need for visits to the local health centre and doctors and nurses will have more time for other people and reduce cost of further medication. By strengthening the elderly we should reduce falls and reduce the number of visits to A&E and stays in hospital.
