About this cause

Gorgie City Farm operates as a functioning farm, charity, and social enterprise. With the farming of livestock and vegetables as a base activity, we deliver a robust education and social inclusion programme offering a variety of activities throughout the year. Aimed at individuals of all ages, we offer volunteering opportunities that provide support for adults with support needs and young people from aged 13. The site is open to the public 363 days a year offering educational tourism activities for the public. We receive over 200,000 visitors each year and support 150 volunteers, close to 50% of our volunteers have additional needs. The Farm has existed for almost 40 years, tucked between a railway line and one of Edinburgh’s main roads.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Visitors and volunteers will be informed about the plants and animals they see and how they provide us with the food we eat. They will be informed of Health & Safety issues, including hand washing, cleaning footwear, and safe areas to access. Visitors and volunteers will understand that the farm is a charity and that it relies on charitable donations to be able to continue its work.
