Communicare in Southampton
Community Development
We aim to recruit volunteer drivers to take older people to social events, including our lunch club and tea parties, to reduce isolation.
About this cause
Communicare aims to extend a helping hand to members of the community, particularly as they become more elderly. Striving to combat loneliness and isolation, boosting people's mental health is important to the Charity. Services are free of charge and include a home visiting service, practical tasks, trips out & tea parties. In 2016-17, the Charity's 214 volunteers enriched the lives of over 380 people in Southampton with 670 requests. 161 clients were supported through social activities, which include a weekly lunch club, "The Haven" and regular tea parties, hosted in partnership with local Churches. Clients have been seen to make new, lasting friendships at these social events, which is an absolute delight for all involved. Volunteering is easy and customised to suit the individual.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our aim is to reduce isolation and loneliness by creating opportunities for people to access their community; especially valuable to those with mental health issues, who receive little other support. Volunteers also benefit from the joys and challenges of helping others whilst gaining practical knowledge in a simple and flexible way. Small amounts of time have a huge impact on the disadvantaged.
