About this cause

Serving Berkhamsted and the surrounding area for over 30 years, The Hospice of St Francis is here for all local people living with a life limiting illness, offering free support from diagnosis. Alongside a stay in a Hospice bed should it be required, the Hospice’s community nursing team visit people in their own homes and in care homes whilst the outpatient Spring Centre promotes well-being through advice, workshops, therapies and activities. We also support loved ones and carers for as long as they need us. The Hospice needs to raise £5 million annually to fund its care and with only 20% funded by the NHS, is dependent upon and extremely grateful to its community for its ongoing support.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Many of the children we support find it difficult to express their emotions and feelings about serious illness, death and bereavement. They often feel lost, confused and isolated. in 2016 we helped 110 children living in West Herts and the Chiltern area of Buckinghamshire. All our care is free but we depend on our local community and local businesses to support us and enable us to help them.
