About this cause

Garioch Carriage Driving for Disabled Group is part of Riding for Disabled Association and provides individuals with a range of disabilities the opportunity to both learn to drive a horse and carriage or, if the nature of their disabilities is such, to simply go for a carriage drive in the open air in the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside. This provides exercise, social stimulation and for some individuals the opportunities to learn new skills and even compete in competitions to demonstrate those skills. We have three dual control carriages all designed, if needed, to take wheelchairs and provide our 17 clients who are generally adults or young adults with up to 14 drives on a Wednesday morning and 3 drives every Thursday evening during the driving season from May until October.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We offer opportunities not only to people with a range of disabilities but with over 30 volunteers needed to support our work and enable us to continue driving in safety our Group is a significant contributor of volunteering opportunities for the local community. Purchasing the replacement horse will allow the Group to continue offering these opportunities.
