Portishead Pool Community Trust
Community Development
We want to install mains gas and a new boiler for our pool and cafe.
About this cause
Our community Trust was formed in 2008 as a result of a public campaign to save our local open air swimming pool from closure by the local authority. We are run mainly by volunteers who keep this much loved pool and community café open for the local and wider community and for future generations to enjoy outdoor swimming , school galas, swimming lessons and inexpensive family days out. All income is ploughed back into running and maintaining the 55 year old facility and we have recently had an extensive refurbishment involving relining the pool and replacing the outdated plant. Our objective is to continue to provide open air swimming, leisure, sport and health facilities for the local and wider community and to ensure that this vital resource is there for future generations.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Mains gas will be a cheaper source of energy to run the pool and cafe so will need much needed revenue to future proof the pool. It will also be more reliable - no more running out of bottled gas or volunteers being on site for out of hours deliveries. It is an important project for the Trust and will help safeguard the pool which is such a vital part of the community.
