About this cause

Link Age Southwark (LAS) is vibrant local volunteering charity with an impressive track record of improving older people’s lives. We recruit, train and manage hundreds of volunteers to deliver services to over 600 older people across the London Borough of Southwark. Our vision is "friendly, vibrant local communities where older people thrive" and our objectives are to reduce isolation and loneliness, improve people’s quality of life, physical and mental health and enable older people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. Our current services include: one-to-one befriending relationships; 22 regular social and activity groups; volunteer practical support including transport; inter-generational work with local schools; and specialist dementia-related services.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our groups are the only social interaction that many of our service users have outside the home. Providing transport for those who can’t travel alone means they remain active and engaged in their community and maintain social contact with a wide range of different people. By bringing people together of all ages and backgrounds, our work promotes a stronger, richer and age-friendly local community
