About this cause
Momentum is a local, registered charity, supporting families across Surrey and SW London whose children are facing cancer or a life-limiting condition. We offer individually-tailored emotional support through our family support programme, as well as a music/drama therapy for children. We aim to ease some of the stresses that come with a gruelling treatment plan, so provide trips, treats and respite holidays in our two New Forest holiday homes and on our Thames riverboat. If a child sadly dies, we help with funerals and bereavement care. We also transform children's wards in local hospitals Kingston, Epsom, St Peters, E Surrey. Having a seriously ill child is devastating for the whole family (parents & siblings) and we know our support makes a huge difference during a very stressful time.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Momentum is a local organisation, working directly with families in our local community and a tight geographical catchment. We find that when a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the devastating impact often extends beyond the family unit too - schools, friends, sports clubs etc also feel huge empathy. Our Trips and Treats bring happiness that ripples outwards to the whole community.
