About this cause

ECYHT has grown steadily over 20 years and was developed in response to an identified need to tackle youth unemployment and lack of affordable housing. We provide employment and training opportunities to unemployed and dis-advantaged young people interested in acquiring building trade skills. We do this through a process of acquiring run-down properties, renovating and then letting them as affordable homes. These properties provide quality affordable accommodation to vulnerable young people in housing need and with the aid of a Tenancy Support Worker, we help move them towards independence and greater responsibility. Annually, our support services make a difference to over 85 local people facing issues such as homelessness, leaving care, fleeing domestic violence and drug/alcohol misuse.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We expect this advisory service to improve the lives of many residents within the rural villages of East Cleveland in many ways. Some of which are; raising financial awareness and actively reducing debt, better understanding of rights and responsibilities, leading happier healthier lifestyles, improving self-esteem and resilience and providing access to internet and landline facilities.
