About this cause

Breakthrough UK is a disabled peoples organisation - 60% of our staff and 70% of our board identify as disabled people and as such have the lived experience to understand the barriers facing disabled people. We primarily provide employment services to disabled people in Greater Manchester. This involves supporting local disabled people to have the skills and confidence to live independently, and to access employment opportunities. We support the most vulnerable people who are furthest from the job market into volunteering, training and employment by providing 1:1 support and group training courses. We aim for a society where disabled people can participate on the same basis as everyone and that they understand their rights and that they are valued by society.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Disabled people will have increased confidence and aspirations, reduced isolation and learn job-specific skills as a result of the programme. Participants will have increased chances of gaining employment, which reduces poverty and improves quality of life, health and well-being, independence and participation in society. There is wider social and economic impact on the local community.
