About this cause

We provide a free, weekly activity, social and support group for people with dementia and their carers. The group is run entirely by volunteers, activities are structured and meaningful in a safe and accessible environment, with a strong element of fun, education and sensory. Activities are varied e.g bellringing/handchimes, pottery, art and craft, reminiscence, dance, electronics, music therapy. We also make a small number of items which are offered for sale/donation. The group is run under one of Black Park Chapel Trust's Articles of Association, which is:- "The relief of physical and mental illness and disability, the alleviation of developmental, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and the protection and promotion of good health through the therapeutic use of music".

How this cause brings people in the community together

We are hoping to extend the existing morning only provision to include a light lunch and afternoon musical activity. The morning session will remain as supporting people with dementia and their carers, but the light lunch and afternoon session will be opened out to other members of the community who could also benefit from our activities and social time in the isolated village of Black Park.
