Clare Daly Foundation & Skcin
Health
We want to make the children of Liverpool 'Sun Safe' through an accreditation scheme.
About this cause
The Clare Daly Foundation was set up to raise awareness of melanoma. CDF was established in memory of Clare, who passed away following a short battle with melanoma. Clare died on 7 December 2015, aged 29. We focus on raising awareness and on education in relation to melanoma, with an emphasis on children and young people. With this in mind, we have committed - with Skcin - to educate children in the Liverpool region with the 'Sun Safe’ message through a Sun Safe schools accreditation scheme. This involves work for all participating schools, assemblies, personal protection via sun creams & hats, and a school commitment to shaded areas for summer.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Children are our community, both present and future. Skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the UK and the number one killer. If we can educate children at a young age then A: this ensures are next generation grow up knowing the importance of being sun safe and saving themselves the trauma of skin cancer in later life, and B: reduces the burden on our local NHS the wider the message spreads.
