About this cause

We support older people in the community. We are currently providing additional support to Dementia Friendly Communities. We are proud to say that one of the towns we are supporting is an Abergele community as it is working towards becoming dementia friendly. Age Connects has Dementia Champions who are able to deliver the Dementia Friends Sessions and helps raise awareness in communities. Dementia Friendly Communities are an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, which is supported by Welsh Government but is driven forward by a group of local volunteers. The money from the Coop Local Community Fund will be used in partnership with Home Instead to facilitate the Abergele Dementia Friendly Steering Group to help make positive changes in the community which will benefit people living with Dementia.

How this cause brings people in the community together

People with Dementia often isolate themselves from their communities, through feelings of embarrassment, worry, fear of safety and lack of understanding of those around them. We want to unite our community and involve people living with Dementia to be an active part of the community and to live well.
