About this cause

Derg valley care provided a range of health and social care services, including domiciliary care under contract to WHSCT; health promotion, prevention and early intervention program. Our luncheon club is a self-help initiative established to enable older people to meet every Thursday for a hot meal and companionship. We have 25 members over 65. The aim of the luncheon club is to reduce social isolation, help older people live independently for longer and help older people feel safe at home. We provide advice and information services for members, encouraging positive health and well being. This ties in with our overall aim to make Castlederg a healthy place for healthy people.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Older people will be able to live at home more independently. Falls will be reduced. Older people will stay physically healthier for longer. Social isolation will be reduced. Older people will build confidence, will feel safer and be empowered to take a more active citizenship role. Emergency hospital admissions will be reduced as self-efficacy combined with health improvements is embraced.
