About this cause

The volunteers run a former church as a community centre for local residents. We run children's activities such as parent and toddler social, seasonal parties and films; summer and winter fairs; family game nights; quiz nights; party nights; occasional classes including yoga and crafts; free community events like a recent BBQ. We have recently taken a lease of the land around the hall and we are hoping to develop a community garden; the space has recently been used by local schools and the Scouts, and for community events. Over the next 3 years we plan to refurbish the hall to improve facilities and attract more private hires to become self-sustaining, at the same time setting up new projects with other charities to bring together old and young residents on a local history project.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The real gap in local activities is in those which bring the community old and new together. Our garden will tackle this through growing vegetables, crafts, storytelling and bringing other groups in, to bring the community centre back to it's thriving time at the heart of local life where all walks of life can meet - reducing isolation in a community which is growing apart, and improving health.
