About this cause

Astley & Tyldesley Miners’Welfare club, built in the 1940 s by the miners' union as a sports and social club for miners of the area, remains a sports and social club with 1000 +members. It offers many activities _ cricket, football,cycling karate,a running club, ladies rounders ,bowling green,radio club ,pensioners cycle group and the section that I am involved in ASTLEY AND TYLDESLEY TENNIS CLUB.We have 6 teams & open the courts to the public &.schools. The four tennis courts are situated at the club The courts were built sometime after the A@T M.W. in the 1950 's .At the moment the court surface is of an old tarmacadam. The surface which is uneven cracking and suffering from poor drainage problems making the courts dangerous and unusable in damp weather and autumn /winter month s

How this cause brings people in the community together

Tennis players and would be players,young and old, will all benefit from these upgrades They will also be of benefit to local schools eg Atherton & Tyldesley School Sports Association who use the facility . Free use is designed to encourage people to "have a go".Tennis promotes health and well -being this, together with the assured warm and friendly welcome,will reinforce a sense of community
