About this cause
PFWA provides practical help to those with an urgent need of support at a time of crisis by supplying the basics of human needs. We collect, sort, store quality donated goods; bedding, clothes, household and kitchen items, shoes, cots and prams which are given out free to help the clients back on their feet. Over 2500 adults and children came to PFWA last year all either with, or referred by a Social worker or similar and they range across society from the homeless, women from the refuge, jobless, addicts, ex prisoners and those who have slipped through the welfare net. We are an agent for the food bank and supply donated food to people in need. With 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 over 60's living in poverty without reserves in Portsmouth it only takes something minor to cause a crisis.
How this cause brings people in the community together
PFWA has strong links with Social Services, Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation Services, PCC, The Roberts Centre and many other Welfare Organisations and it widely recognised that our service is unique in the area. There is no other organisation providing this service nor is there any funding to provide it. We believe that by involving many to recycle quality goods the whole community benefits.
