About this cause

SBH Scotland provides a lifetime commitment of support to all those affected by spina bifida/hydrocephalus, including parents and carers. We provide parents with the information that they need to come to terms with the diagnosis and help them prepare for the future. We introduce new families to other parents who have been in the same situation to help build up a real, permanent network of support. We assist children, young people and adults across Scotland through specialist support projects, home & hospital visits, youth clubs, health checks, peer support and respite. In recognition of our work, we were named National Charity of the Year at the Charity Champions Awards in October 2016.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Spina bifida is a low incidence condition and the groups are often the very first opportunity for children and young people to meet other children with spina bifida/hydrocephalus. Three outings take place each year, with the children experiencing life in the wider community, often for the very first time, e.g. visit to a safari park, the beach, etc.
