Portsoy Salmon Bothy Lift Project
Community Development
The community space at Portsoy Salmon Bothy does not have disabled access. We need funds to help build an extension to provide a lift.
About this cause
Portsoy Salmon Bothy opened in 2009. It has two aspects to it, the first a small museum depicting life in Portsoy It is open to the public from April - October and also by appointment. It is accredited by the Museums and Galleries Scotland and is a Visit Scotland 4* attraction. The second aspect is a community space which takes up to 60 people. It is widely used for community groups, events and exhibitions. The Salmon Bothy Folk Group was formed in 2009 and is now internationally know. The Bothy acquired film equipment from the British Film Industry and can attract a full house when films are shown. It recently had three sell out dates for Whisky Galore. The Bothy Knitters have been in operation since 2009 and are well know attending fairs and exhibitions.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The community area of the Salmon Bothy is open to the community for hire to any member of the community. Events run are for the whole community. Anyone with mobility problems find access very difficult. People in wheel chairs presently cannot access events. The lift would allow access to all members of the community.
