About this cause
Stockport Car Scheme provides door to door transport to social events, visiting friends and family and visits to care homes and hospitals as well as medical appointments, we also take people personal shopping. This is for Stockport residents 18+ who find it difficult to use public transport due to illness, age or disability. Our service also provides support to unpaid carers to enable them to attend appointments and social activities. We help people stay well and independent in their own homes. Our drivers give their time and use their own vehicles. They collect the clients from home, wait with them if necessary and then take them back. The drivers give support as some of our clients have very poor mobility. We help people stay independent and socially included.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We keep people socially included and stop them becoming isolated by taking them to visit friends and family, go shopping and attend social groups. We help people to keep healthy by helping them to attend medical appointments. We also help our volunteers as most are retired and some live alone and enjoyed being involved in something rewarding and say that it helps them feel better in themselves.
