About this cause
A diagnosis of breast cancer can be frightening. Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and medication take's its toll. Medical treatment is necessary but so much more is needed. That is where we come in. We offer advice on practical things like money and work, help combat stress, exhaustion and nausea, advice on healthy eating and exercise. Our trained professional nurses, therapists, counsellors listen to individual concerns and give them all the practical, emotional and physical support they need in a tailor-made package. Free of charge. Our centre in Titchfield, Hampshire covers the whole of the Wessex region. Each Visitor to Breast Cancer Haven receives ten hours of therapy time. They will also receive two hours of nurse specialist time at the beginning and end of their plan.
How this cause brings people in the community together
There is a 3 month waiting list for counselling on the NHS, at the Breast Cancer Haven, we can see people almost immediately, straight after they receive the devastating news of a breast cancer diagnosis. There are 3,000 people in the Wessex region living with a breast cancer diagnosis, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed in the UK in their lifetime. We have helped over 450 since October 2015.
