About this cause

Friends Of Autism Highland originated as a coffee morning for families with children affected by autism. A FB page was established and we now have over 250 members. We offer support, advice and share experiences with each other which sometimes is all that's needed. Outings and activities are also arranged by a hardworking voluntary committee who also look at fundraising ideas. Our events aim to help and support families in areas which can sometimes be isolated or difficult due to some of the children's difficulties. We have recently become an all inclusive group and welcome people who are going through the 'autism diagnosis' which can be an extremely difficult time for families. Hopefully by joining our group we can help and advise and make a difficult road a little less bumpy.

How this cause brings people in the community together

All kids in our group have Autism, they have social interaction difficulties and sensory issues. Being able to participate in activities where everyone understands each other's difficulties as all in the same boat is good and puts parents (and kids) more at ease, especially as the kids do strike up some friendships with each other in the group.
