About this cause

Southampton Sight (Southampton Society for the Blind) is a local charity supporting people living with sight loss. Since its formation in 1899 our charity has supported its members by providing friendship, companionship and advice. Our mission is to offer a lifetime of support to people living with sight loss, or at risk of sight loss. We do this by delivering services that support people • to have greater independence • experience reduced isolation • achieve their own individual goals • to have greater access to information, advice, support and specialist equipment The society also ensures the residents of Southampton and associated professionals have increased awareness of sight loss by offering sight loss awareness training, regular events and a digital information platform.

How this cause brings people in the community together

There are over 6000 people living with sight loss in Southampton. Many lack emotional support and lack of information and this leads to loneliness, dependence and vulnerability. This newsletter will offer information, advice and guidance, and as well as giving people practical and emotional support to help them in their daily lives it will also help their families & carers and the wider community.
