About this cause

Northumberland Wildlife Trust exists to protect wildlife within Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle. Our mission is to restore, reconnect and re-create landscapes and marine environments, allowing wildlife to thrive and move freely and adapt to climate change. We educate thousands of people about nature each year, working with schools, running special events and clubs, and providing information. We believe the key to success is getting as many people as possible involved in caring for their own environment. We manage over 60 local nature reserves, covering 38kmĀ² of countryside, and run projects that help threatened species, including red squirrels and water voles. Over 300 volunteers help us to deliver vital conservation work, vastly expanding our delivery capacity.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We believe the key to success is getting as many people as possible involved in caring for their own environment, connecting local people with local places. We want local residents to feel a sense of ownership and pride in the nature on their doorstep. Running a comprehensive education programme will equip them with the skills to be able to recognise and care for their local wildlife.
