About this cause

Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV; www.servsussex.org.uk), provides a free, rapid and reliable means of transporting emergency blood products, patient notes, and time-critical laboratory samples to hospitals at night, on request. During the daytime, we collect human infant milk from donors at pre-arranged times and deliver it to the milk banks in the South-East. We also deliver treated milk to mothers at their homes if they need donor milk and cannot make it to the specific hospitals to collect the supplies. Volunteers work on a rota, waiting to respond to urgent calls relayed via their county controller. SERV volunteers generally use their own machines and pay for the petrol themselves; they receive no money for this all and all officers of the charity are unpaid volunteers.

How this cause brings people in the community together

In addition to supporting local Hospital Trusts with blood delivery and transport, SERV Sussex volunteers also supporting the Community Trust Childrens nursing team and provide support to other charities free of charge, marshalling cycling and running events ensuring the safety of participants. We also collect human infant milk from donors and deliver treated milk to mothers at their homes.
