The Peel
Social Inclusion
We want to run a befriending scheme for older lonely people living in Clerkenwell
About this cause
The Peel Club is a welcoming and friendly Club for anyone who is over 55 years old. We have a long tradition of supporting the Clerkenwell community and now, after over 100 years working for local people the Peel continues to provide a wide range of activities, classes and social events aimed at educating, stimulating and entertaining our members. From Dancing to Tai Chi to Lunch to Computer Classes to Evening Meals to Parties and weekend events, the Peel offers something for everyone and aims to meet most people’s tastes and needs. We providing a welcome place for people to make friends, stay active and enjoy life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Clerkenwell has a warm sense of community but some of our older neighbours are lonely or isolated. This might be because of a lack of mobility or bereavement. Being lonely or isolated is bad for your physical and mental health. Some studies suggest being lonely is worse for you than smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Our project will help people make new friends and live a happy life.
