About this cause

Rainbow Care Centre was established in 1990 by The Reverend Graeme Bell in Carnwadric Church. This was to provide recreational activities to vulnerable and disadvantaged elderly living in the South West of Glasgow. Over the years the organisation has developed a Volunteer Befriending Project which operates under the same Charity Number, Constitution and Board but secures funds and operates independent of the Day centre. To this day, the Day Centre provides a homely atmosphere with a space to relax, range of activities, promoting physical and mental stimulation, social recreation, customised transport, to and from the centre, and a three course nutritional meal every day. We provide a service to adults living in the Newlands, Auldburn, Carnwadric and Greater Pollok area of Glasgow.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Statistics for our local area show that amongst the elderly, 11% Feel Isolated, 17% Do Not Feel as a Valued Part of the Community and 40%, between the age of 65-74, Do Not Meet the criteria of 150 minutes of Physical Activity in the whole week. The Day Centre ensures these Members are a healthy and active part of our community.
