About this cause

Our charity 'Open Sight' is Hampshire's principal organisation for the visually impaired, providing a wide range of services to help clients adapt, manage and lead independent, fulfilling lives. Our Living Advisers will assist by phone or visit homes regarding benefits and equipment. The Sensory Loss Rehabilitation Officers conduct long cane training to enable outdoor independence. Our Family Support Service offers emotional advice around family issues and arranges fun days for families to get together. We have 20 peer-support clubs across the county and organize holidays too. Our objectives are to raise awareness of sight loss issues within the wider community and to provide information and training for individuals and organisations who are working with visually impaired people.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will bring together a disabled minority group in respect of young children with sight loss. This can also be a hard-to-reach group where the families are often emotionally stressed due to the situation with their child, often do not know where to go for advice and guidance and do not how or where to reach out to other similar families to obtain the benefits of peer-support.
